Agnes White (Ashley Judd) is a bartender at a local lesbian bar who meets up with Peter Evans (Michael Shannon). They go back to Agnes' hotel room. Peter is shy and quiet and is displaying odd behavior. Agnes is a lonely woman who's son disappeared years ago and who's ex-husband Jerry Goss (Harry Connick, Jr.) blames her for his disappearance. She find herself attracted to Peter even though he seems to be struggling with demons of his own. He tells her that people experimented on him in the Army and tries to stay away from her so that she doesn't get caught up in his troubles. He is obsessed with bugs - more specifically anphid or plant lice and believes she was infected with bugs as part of an experiment. This is a mind-bending thriller filled with conspiracy theories and intense drama.
